Megan Fong's Story

In Loving Memory of Megan C. Fong - 1983 - 2002

Megan C. FongMegan C. Fong won her first tennis tournament at age 11 and never looked back. By the time she graduated from high school in 2001, Megan had won numerous tournaments and earned a full scholarship to Bradley University. She was also a gifted scholar and a dedicated Christian. Her friends remembered her as the "prettiest, sweetest kid you ever wanted to meet." She had a contagious smile and her life was full of joy and energy.

Megan was in the middle of a promising freshman tennis season at Bradley University when she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. In spite of her illness, Megan's faith never wavered and she never complained or asked "why me?" However, there was one compelling question on her mind: "How do I share my faith with others?" Even when things seemed the very worst for Megan, she was thinking about how she could impact individuals with God's love. Her Megan C. Fonggreatest desire was to return to school and tell others about Jesus Christ.

As time passed, it seemed she was beginning to recover. Then suddenly and very sadly, in August of 2002, Megan developed an infection that her weakened immune system could not fight. Five days later she went home to be with the Lord.

Most people don't like to think about death, but it will come. Another day is coming called "The Judgement Day." On that day you will have to give an account to God for your sins. Are you ready? The bible tells us in Romans 3:23 that:

"All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God."  Jesus said, "Under the laws of Moses the rule was, 'If you murder you must die.' But I have added to that rule and tell you that if you are only angry, even in your own home, you are in danger of judgement!" Also "The law of Moses said, 'You shall not commit adultery.' But I say: Anyone who even looks at a woman with lust in his eye has already committed adultery with his heart" (Matthew 5:21 & 27).

The penalty for all sins will be death and separation from God in a place called Hell.

Romans 6:23 says:

"The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord."

The bible also tells us that God is rich in mercy. It is not His desire that you go to Hell. Instead, He provides a way for you to be forgiven. He so loves you that He sent His only Son to take your punishment.

Romans 5:8 says:

"God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

Jesus defeated death by rising from the dead. If you will repent, turn away from your sins and trust in Jesus, God will forgive you and grant you everlasting life with Him. If you are ready to acknowledge your sin and receive God's gift of salvation, pray something like this now:

Dear God, I want to turn away from all my sins (name them). This day I put my trust in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. Please forgive me, change my heart and grant me Your gift of everlasting life. Amen.

If you prayed this simple prayer, you are now a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your bible daily, obey God's Word and seek Christian fellowship. (see John 14:21)

Megan's passing was tragic, but she understood that life without a Saviour is the biggest tragedy of all. She wanted more than anything to share her faith and to point you to God's mercy, love and forgiveness.
